To honor and commemorate MLK Day, Kennadi Watkins, accompanied by Sam Reeves, will sing the songs of King’s friend and collaborator in the social justice movement, Mahalia Jackson. These songs of hope and faith were the soundtrack to the civil rights movement of the 50s and 60s.

Kennadi Watkins (formerly Hurst) was born to her musically talented parents, David and Rachel Hurst. At a very early age, they discovered her gifts and call to music and the arts. Her extensive training from church to school, from dance companies to arts programs, equipped her for a life of performance. Kennadi formed a special connection to Mahalia Jackson when she played a young Mahalia as a high school sophomore and she has been a student of Jackson’s music and performance style ever since.
