Creator, host Sue Scott is a veteran actor, who for 24 years was the female cast member on the public radio show A Prairie Home Companion. Since 2019, Sue has been thoroughly immersed in producing Island of Discarded Women live show & podcast. Special guest Gwen Walz is Minnesota’s 39th First Lady. As a teacher, educating Minnesota’s children is one of Gwen’s passions. Throughout her career, she has taught in public, alternative, and migrant schools. Gwen is a passionate advocate for exemplary education in America’s prisons as well. She has worked across the country to bring educational opportunities to incarcerated women and men, or as Gwen notes: students. Gwen has been working fervently throughout her life to build a more just and equitable world. From teaching at prisons and promoting criminal justice reform, to advocating for the LGBTQ movement, Gwen’s desire to learn from and work with others to advance meaningful change is her guiding principle. Our guest Rev. Ingrid Rasmussen is the lead pastor at Holy Trinity Lutheran church in Minneapolis. The daughter of a church organist, Ingrid’s years of study in Atlanta, combined with work in a free health care clinic, led her into ordained ministry. She is currently leading a growing coalition of clergy, Annunciation parents and nurses & doctors calling for an assault weapons ban in Minnesota. Musical guest Chastity Brown, is a powerful folk, rock, and blues singer/songwriter. Based in Minnesota, but with roots in Tennessee, Chastity grew up surrounded by country and soul music. In the full gospel church of her childhood, she played saxophone and drums and found her singing voice and a passion for music. She’s been featured on NPR’s “Favorite Sessions,” CMT, American Songwriter, the London Times, Paste Magazine and others. Chastity has toured extensively in the U.S. and abroad.
