Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society: Worlds of Tomorrow

Jan 27 | 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Dinner and cocktail seating and service begins 1 hour before showtimes.

Radio Drama

A science fiction double-feature exploring the wonder and danger of technology, performed in the style of an old-time radio broadcast, including vintage commercials and live sound effects.“The Veldt” from Dimension X: George and Lydia are concerned about their children. They’ve become obsessed with the “ nursery” – a virtual reality playroom designed and built by the Happy Home Corporation. A “precautionary” tale from radio’s golden age, adapted from the classic short story by Ray Bradbury. “Watchbird” from Future Crash: Charlie manufactures Watchbirds; armed drones designed to detect and detain murderers before they strike. Will this new technology usher in an age of peace and harmony… or end life on Earth as we know it? An original script by Joshua English Scrimshaw based on the short story by Robert Sheckley.

The Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society performed their first staged old-time radio recreation in 2016 at the Bryant-Lake Bowl Theater in Minneapolis. Since then, they have appeared at the Minnesota Fringe Festival, Daleko Arts in New Prague, and the Wabasha Street Caves in Saint Paul. Their recreations were also featured monthly from 2017 to 2019 at the James J. Hill Center and from 2020 to 2022 at Park Square Theater in Saint Paul. Currently, the MORLS performs regularly at both the Bryant-Lake Bowl Theater and Crooners Supper Club.
