Music tells the story of Whitney Houston and more

This show features Whitney Houston’s music from her roots and where she started in her career. From her gospel roots, her family connections, on up to becoming one the very first R & B artist to cross over and into the mainstream of the “Pop” music culture. The show features 5 of The Midwest’s most powerful vocalists.

Kathleen Johnson is an American singer, vocalist and band leader. Her musical resume includes working with artists many bands in the Twin Cities music scene, and mentoring artists. In the early eighties, she formed the band Myst with her sisters Mocha and Karen and aunt Rhonda Johnson which evolved into Best Kept Secret (BKS) in the nineties when Karen Johnson left and Kathleen became the lead vocalist.

She also was a member of TKO, a band formed by her younger brother Kirk Johnson. and before she was in M.P.L.S. (unrelated to Prince’s 1993-4 group Minneapolis) with The Game Boyz.

She worked with Prince in the nineties providing background vocals on many songs for him or associated artists. From 1993 to 2001, she was married to Michael Bradford, who was working in the building management of the Paisley Park Studios.

Kathleen Johnson released her album with BKS “Honest Pure and True” in 1997 and still performs in the Twin Cities.

A standout professional performing artist by the age of 10, Cornisha Garmon has worked with Vickie Winans, Paul Porter & The Christianaires, Walt Whitman & The Soul Ella’s” and Children of Chicago, James Greer & Company, Producer/Writer Darnell Davis, Angie Stone, Mariah Carey and Terri Carroll. Sounds of Blackness as a featured Lead Vocalist (where she also sang background for Lyle Lovett & Bonnie Rait). She was featured on the Movie soundtrack “Justice” and Eric Benet.

Lamont Keten of “Mfellaz”, The Greats gone 2 soon” live music series, The “MPLS Men of Motown”, “Co-Mingl” project, “The Soul Tight Committee” band, a featured vocalist for “Mid America talent” and backing vocalist for “Alexander O’Neal”.
